Here are some images from the "Die In" held at Tulane on 10/21/02. Below is a description of the event from Karen O'Keefe.
Today, we painted our faces white with darkened eyes and marched very slowly with the drum beating slowly. I marched in front with a sign "war at any price," which listed statistics (the cost, the deaths so far, etc), the three who would die were side by side, and the drummer was in the rear. The three dying people lined up in front of the stairs in front of the entrance, while I stood to the side and they faced Aaron, the drummer. He changed the beat and had one loud beat, the first person fell dead. At a second loud beat, the second fell, then the third. Aaron and I passed out flyers (The top reads: "R. I. P. Who/what may die while you look on in silence?"), while the three laid "dead" for about 1/2 hour. We traced their bodies in sidewalk chalk and wrote other things (RIP - 500,000 Iraqi children under 5, announced the march Wednesday, Unite for Peace, etc). Then, Aaron drummed again and I helped each dead person up as we chanted "Break the Silence, Work for Peace, Stop the Violence in the Middle East."
